The Book of Kimono was written by Yamanaka Norio, founder of the Sōdō Kimono Academy, and published in English translation in 1982. It was one of the first kitsuke books available in English. The language is formal and many find the approach to rules rather strict in contrast to the wide variety of kitsuke books and magazines available today.

The main problem with the book is its lack of color pictures or in some cases any pictures to illustrate what the text is describing. Many of the items described such as the biyosugata are inventions of Yamanaka Norio and were not widely available or even known outside of Japan.
