Have you dressed a family member or friend in kimono before? If so - this is the place to show us!
Haven't done it yet? What's stopping you? Go grab your mother, friend, neighbour or local bus driver and get them all dressed up!

3 different friends with the same kimono, in different occasions. Our kimono demonstration for our org (Ugh messy obiage and too formal; this was before we changed it to a pink-ish one. I don't have a pic with the other obiage sorry.) UN day at my friend's high school Crazy day pic of our org president And finally, our Tanabata Matsuri celebration 3 years ago! (this is the oldest pic out of the 4)

Last year, about 8 weeks after Lily was born, my Mom flew over from Australia to visit. My mom really wanted to wear kimono at least once while here and lucky for us her trip coincided with San Francisco Cherry Blossom Festival! Well, by coincided, I mean started the day she was due to fly back to Australia! We had stayed in the city the night before - so we had more than enough time to dress my Mom up for the morning before we had to take her to the airport. It was an interesting experience in putting together an ensemble for my Mom. I wanted to do something age appropriate and Taisho - but something that still had POP to it. My Mom's favourite colour is purple, and luckily for me - I had the PERFECT aubergine komon that she loved right away. The rest of the ensemble very quickly fell into place. Not only did kimono suit my Mom amazingly, no one could believe it was my Mom's first time wearing kimono, as she wore it like a natural! She had a blast and I was really glad we could do kitsuke together! Haha - look at how itty bitty Lily is!

What a great challenge! I dressed my friend very quickly last year, there is a thread about it here. The obijime and pink kiri blossoms on the obi were a much closer match in real life. (I would have steamed the kimono, but it has a faint stain and I didn't want to set it with heat) Creases in front are 'cause she's spinning- we had so much fun playing dress-up! Scandalous pose!

Here are a couple of shots from a friend I had dressed in kimono. She too has that unfair kimono-perfect shape (a friend once referred to the "2 mosquito bites" on her chest) and nearly no interest in them. Oh well... Apart from the lacking the sense of touch for guidance, but gaining the ability to see from the back, I found it a bit troublesome to have to trek around her for everything. She's even worse than I am to follow directional instruction: "Turn a quarter around to the right... No, the other right! Stop! Just 90°! Now please face back forward... Don't come forward!" I was also a bit uneasy about having to dress such a novice, because I thought she might misinterpret all the bear-hugging; groin, backside, hips, and chest adjustments; slipping my hand into parts of the clothing, etc. I was also very careful about tying, since she lacked the experience to tell me if something was too tight, or too loose and about to unravel. I once partially dressed a male friend for educational purposes and he wasn't uneasy at all, so I guess it depends on the person.

It's a running gag between me and my friend when ever I dress her. "I'm touching your boobs." I dressed up my sister to show off some kanzashi from Lenneth last summer. Not that ideal body type.

I am new to this website and I have loved the Japanese culture since I was twelve. Since I wasn't able to go to a Japanese school and learn how to put on a beautiful kimono, I had to teach myself. I went all over online, searching and trying to figure it out how to put it on. I finally did. I found some wonderful kimonos online on ebay and I found a beautiful 1950-9180 Showa Period kimono for my best friend. I dressed her up in this kimono and it turned out wonderful. I picked out the Fukuro obi, the obiage, the obijime, the under garments, and the kimono itself. It was a wonderful deal. All together, the kimono cost $227.00. I love Ebay. Period.
[color=#BF0040]Also, I dressed up her little sister in my pink yukata. It was getting short on me XD [/ (My best friend is to the right, I'm on the left) (P.S. I'm on the right of this photo. My best friend is to the left with the kimono I got her and her little sister is inbetween us)

Hehe, happy people in Kimono. I posted this picture before in another thread, but I wanted to share it here in the fitting thread, too. I dressed my two cousins in Yukata. Actually they don't have any relation to japanese culture, but they were visiting the weekend on which the japanese festival took place and surprisingly agreed to get dressed in Yukata, too. They looked great in it and already said that they want to do it again next year!

My brother asked if I could help him with his yukata ensemble for this year's Bon Odori, so I prepared one of the new ones I'd gotten for him at last year's Yukata Fair at Jusco (it has stripes and bats on it!) and paired it with his black pre-tied hakata obi and the skeleton-themed geta I bought for him two years ago. After seeing him dressed up and flipping through a couple of my yukata magazines, his girlfriend also wanted to get dressed up I showed her my whole collection and let her pick one yukata (well, she was torn between this one and another, so she let my brother choose) and a matching obi. This is the end result! I put her in a pair of navy blue geta and tucked a matching blue fan into her obi to match the navy blue dragonflies on the yukata. I also tossed in the bag and the hair accessory to make the outfit look more complete. Friday Night Dress-up! by shira.C, on Flickr Aren't they so cute together?? One of the magazines they were flipping through had a feature on couples' yukata and how to match them with themes, so their outfits are also somewhat matched together! Both yukata are light-coloured and have some sort of stripes on them while their obi also have some form of stripes (Haha after getting dressed up, she took a look through my 2nd-hand yukata for sale pile and got two yukata sets for herself ^^; Spreading the love~ )

Okay, I really suck at this, since I didn't have a chance to dress anyone in something like a year or so - helpful tips appreciated! My cousin - she's really petite, but has large - at least DD - breasts. I know I'll have to add more padding next time. What get away on a yukata won't in a kimono... And sorry about the mess in the back. The room is actually my kanzashi workshop and I had someone choosing the fabrics earlier. Karolina just popped in asking to show her the way to a certain shop... it ended like this. By kakitatsuriko By kakitatsuriko By kakitatsuriko

I recently dressed a few friends of mine- this one was done on such a hot day, I didn't like to spend too long fussing with her kitsuke in case she expired! The front view -not shown- was quite poor, but I think my tateya is improving! I seem to have to keep abandoning the makura when I tie it though (possibly due to me having a weird flat makura) Also another friend, dressed in my rather faded synthetic kimono (is it called a tsukesage?). She's photographed seated to cunningly hide the terrible ohashari. I found it very difficult making the ohashori neat when dressing other people, I have to say!

I was facebook stalking and came across this pic of my mom; she asked to wear one of my kimono to a Halloween party some years ago. XD For fear of beer and other misshaps, I sent her off in one of my scrap kimono and a cotton hanhaba. ololololololo ..... jealous of her short arms.

I think it was 2 years ago, It's not a yukata, it was really cold, I didn't know they were outside, I don't know what she did. Going to assume they weren't outside the whole time, otherwise she would have frozen to death.

Yipee, now I can participate too! Here's my friend Hanna-chan being dressed for the "How-to-dress-in-kimono" -section of my thesis. Her mom insisted on the purple. Here's one of my new odori kimono (she broke it in for me xD) Whops, juban sleeves seem to have taken a run for the money... And here's my purple houmongi: I probably haven't done a better job in padding before.. We were having one good afternoon while taking the pictures. Afterwards she told me that "you never appreciate slouching until you are restricted from doing it." xD

For my birthday this year I dressed my friend Erin up in yukata. I didn't have an obi-ita/shin that was thin enough for the obi she is wearing so it got a bit rumpled. She had a lot of fun though and said her first kitsuke experience was good.
