I sort of dropped the ball on this, and should have posted it quite some time ago, but better late than never, right?

This is the place to post your kimono coordination for any and all holidays, whether they be Japanese or not. Christmas, Valentine's Day, Seijin no Hi, ANZAC day, you name it. If you're having a party, or even if you just feel like dressing up, go for it!

Please tell us what you chose to evoke the feel of the holiday if it's not immediately apparent. Did you wear soft pastels and an usagi obiage to remind us of the Easter Bunny? Is that blue and white kimono with a red obi a good way to bring out the colours of the US Flag for President's day?

As always, have fun!

Some of my friends at school threw a Valentine's Day party and made awesome dinner for all of us. So, we all dressed up for the occasion. This is the only kimono I had on hand that was in season and pink/red. I had to get these pictures off of my friend's facebook account though, so they're small...

Woah! Bright kimono! I think you made the perfect choice of obi to go with it, really grounds it. Very nice.

I wore a red, white, and blue yukata to watch the 4th of July fireworks with my family <3 The musubi was being funky and kept slipping and generally being uncooperative in the back, so just ignore that part please!

This could almost belong in the ''New Years Kuromontsuki'' thread if it wasn't for the improvised Christmas wreath obidome.

And as a single- the best part of this day- when I got dressed up and sit with my family and eat some heart-shaped chocolates and have a light drink ;)

These are pics from the past few months starting with Christmas

On Christmas, my theme was formal-y
Image
Standard IG pose hahaha.

Image
With the pink skull headphones

New Year was crazy colors
Image
cream dance kimono with blue clouds, black based shishi obi (it has lotsa colors), lime green obiage, pink obijime, purple boots, toxic orange skull headphones

For the Foundation Day celebration of a university near mine (they invited us to perform)
Image
I was so in a hurry, I actually forgot to bring an obi so this is obi-less. 8O No one had a clue except me. :?

Then for our university's Crazy Day where everyone dresses up in costumes and act crazy and everyone throws ice water at those who aren't in costume.
Image
From left to right, a maid who's confused whether she's a boy, a girl or a cat; megane-type Meiji school girl, China-san from the anime Hetalia, and cool-type (whuz-with-the-sunglasses) Meiji school girl. I didn't forget the obi this time. We're holding onigiri that we sold to other students and teachers.

Thank you all! :)

Saiya-chan maybe just put the Valentine's Day themed ensemble and show us the photos? :smil3:

Quat I was thinking that I will see more of the kimono and obi from your avatar, but this is very nice too :) (BTW- isn't hakata only for summer? :? )

ladyhendrix I love your tsukesage- I must get something in dark green sometime too :smil3:
And lovely jabane komon/ko-furi :lovelove (can't see how the sleeves ends  )

Thank you stepan_san! I noticed it after putting obi on  - that the ohashori is much too low and the hem is too high for this kind of formality  But in some way it was better when I was sitting- I didn't have to raise kimono higher that it wouldn't touch the floor :)

Hakata is non seasonal! Unless it's ro or awase etc. :D
I was thinking about the pink/red kimono in my icon too, but I decided the rose shibori was more valentine ideal.

If I'm not mistaken the hakata ori is always hitoe... :? Maybe what you're referring to is the traditional pattern which is called kenjo gara (spelling?) and those obi can be sha/ro or awase (haven't seen the awase one in fukuro/nagoya size though, only hanhaba obi).. ?

Btw. your ensemble is great :)

It's a taishou komon. One of my favorites in my collection. I also love the dark green and it's a bit narrow for me but it fits me better than something looser because of the snug fitting around my hips.

Aaaaah, I love these so far! You guys look great.

I am coveting ladyhendrix's green komon -- what a gorgeous color.

Also, quat looks very chic-chic stylish and nela is like a fresh spring flower in those pink shades. What a great-looking group we IGers are.

Keep 'em coming!!! I should post my Valentine's Day kitsuke, but I wasn't happy with how any of the pictures from dinner came out... maybe I'll re-dress just to get some snapshots :D

I'm thinking more along the lines of how the fabric is folded back on itself and sewn shut. Sometimes the 'inside' is exposed, and you can see all the raw inner weave... I don't know if I'm explaining this cearly. You're right that it's not really considered 'awase' in any way that we normally think of as being awase... although it probably would apply to cases where it's a double sided obi, and the other side isn't hakata! Which I totally want.... anyhow.
BTW, thanks. :smil3:
And thank you, Naoko! The next US holiday is... Presidents Day? Or maybe Lincoln's birthday... :katana:

Yes, I know what you meen :) Though I haven't seen one like that. Only my sha nagoya obi has the wide part sewn that way.

A double sided obi with one side hakata (white on white) and the other side some other single color weave has been sold on eBay some time ago. It was really great! :)

Spotlight just before christmas. I have spare of this fabric enough spare for a second han eri if you are keen. They also had cockatoos and wattle and koalas with gum leaves (all wearing santa hats).

Tempting - but then I don't know if I have kimono festive enough to wear it with hmmmm...also I am horribly lazy about changing my haneri. I bought about four different tenugui planning to make haneri out of them and I still haven't gotten around to it orz
