'mum's The Word

IG Kitsuke Challenge guidelines:
http://www.immortalgeisha.com/ig_bb/vie ... hp?t=11787

'mums! You know....chrysanthemums! Kiku! Those flowers with lots of petals!

It's about that time of year - so pull out your favourite kiku pieces and put together an outfit. Don't have anything with kiku on it? Why not put together something that evokes the feel of kiku, whether it's colour, pattern or texture wise?

Photos of older ensembles are allowed - but I strongly encourage everyone to work on putting together a new one also! :katana:

I'm not sure how much of a "kiku" ensemble this is, but since it does have kiku on it, I'll post it!

:D My most recent kiku ensemble is a momiji kimono with kiku and peony obi, which was a month or two out of season, but I still wore it to a koto concert on Friday anyway. I'm not sure how well you can see the flowers, but here:
Image
Image
I think you can see the flowers clearer in this one:
Image
This obi is one of my favourites because it's black and embroidered and, most importantly, cheap! I haven't had a chance to wear it till Friday :) I wonder how well it'll go with my shibori kiku kimono...

Uh... Is it alright if I were to go nuts and have a kitsuke fest with my kiku items and post the pics here?

LOL...are all these challenges just for me? Kiku are my absolute faves and at least 50% of my collection has kiku. :lovelove

I'm probably going to do that as well... :D

LOL! I did realize after I posted them it might seem like that - but I did read some people voicing just how much they love either red/black/white and also kiku lately - so I think you'll find yourself in good company!

That's what the challenges are for! Go knock yourself out creating the most awesomely abundant kiku ensemble ever and share!

I don't want to repeat myself, so I'll just link to this thread: http://www.immortalgeisha.com/ig_bb/viewtopic.php?t=11645

The kimono and the second obi have mums. You probably cannot see it, but the pink obiage also has mums :)

Hmm, didn't realize I owned that much kiku.

Me and Naitsuusha at the Tokyo National Museum 2008.04.05

Pink iromuji with a design of kiku

Paired with kiku roundel yushoku Nagoya obi

Which I bought to go with this kiku komon

Which might also match this purple kiku-matsu-momiji komon

Then there'smy beloved purple ro-cotton yukata with kiku

Now I kind of want a kiku obidome.

The obi is silk with golden threads, it´s a tenga obi?

Loreamar, you pull off that vibrant colour so well! I'm jealous!

Here's my mums! I was originally going to work this outfit for the black, white, and red all over challenge but I don't feel there's enough black in it. I've got something else in mind for that one instead.

This was my first kimono ever, and I only wore it briefly once, years ago. It made me really happy and nostalgic to put it back on. :lovelove

I look like a doof in this picture but I wanted to show off how well the zori coordinate. And FIT! FOMG!

moonblossom - I LOVE that kimono! I think the color is rare to find in a tomesode. You look fab! :lovelove

Thank you so much :D It's to blame for my addiction to this nonsense! ;p

Is it a tomesode? I was under the impression it was a houmongi. the sleeves are fairly long and there's designs all the way from my shoulders downwards.

I believe Iyolin means tome-sode as opposed to furi-sode.. "stay-here" sleeves, AKA adult's kimono whith short sleeves. Of course, tomesode is usually used nowadays for kurotomesode, which I believe, from Dalby, should be called kuro-montsuki... When I try "montsuki; I always end up with men's items.

Aah, okay! That makes more sense. Thanks.

Yeah, it's pretty vivid for something that doesn't have immensely long sleeves. It's a bit old though, from what I can tell. The sleeves are a weirdly long but not-too-long length, and the lining is red.

These are features from pre-WWII kimono, Taishô or early Showa. Your kimono is a prize! I love the way your han'eri coordinates, too.

Funny that I managed to snag it before I really knew what I was doing. The seller didn't really label their products from what I can recall. I was just "ooh! Red! My birth flower! Pretty!" :katana:

Thank you for the compliments on the haneri! I'd attached it to the juban for my blue Taisho houmongi and was going to swap on another one for this outfit when I realized it matched the warm gold really well. It's amazing how the colour of an accessory can change depending on what you're wearing it with. It looks much more peachy-orange with the other outfit

OMG I LOVE THOSE SPIDER KIKU!!!! :lovelove And I love red of course so this is extra drool-worthy. :drooldrool: *paws at screen*

I have a kiku ensemble I'm planning (using the very first kimono I ever owned, a gift from my best friend and which has been neglected in my closet for years) but I can't decide which obi to put with a fairly muted burgundy/rust komon - vivid plain vermilion, bright multi-coloured flowers nagoya, cream fukuro with muted orange and gold kiku, or funky shades-of-orange plaid fukuro? Hrm. I don't want to overpower the delicate kiku on the kimono but at the same time I think a more sober obi would tip the whole thing way into jimi territory. :P

aoi84, you look so joyful and vibrant! That kimono is very becoming. I wouldn't have guessed it would look so pretty just from seeing it on the rack.

Auberginefleur & Iyolin: The kimono looks so dull in the sellers pictures because it was absolutely filthy, it was discoloured all over and had really bad stains from storage. So i decided to give it a wash and all the stains came out :]

Fortunately you could save this lovely kimono. Sometimes stains don't go even after washing and colours runs in the water. But in your pic the kimono looks pure white and the colours are vivid!
You look so cute and happy in this pose :kawaii: (and your bag is cute, too )

Everyone gets all sorts of RAWRS! from me! Excellent, EXCELLENT outfits!

Moonblossom - I am sooo envious you can get away with wearing so much red like that! It is very becoming on you and also looks like it could technically fit in the Black White & Red challenge also....

Thank you so much! It's one of my favourite colours to wear.

I wasn't sure if there was enough black in it, but I'll post one of the pics there in a bit, when I have my other black/white/red outfit done :)

Omakie, I think that my kimono may be your kimono's cousin! :D

Here's my kiku ensemble:

I love kiku, but I only have one kiku themed kimono. ^^; It's the birth flower of November and a symbol of royalty, so I like it (although I still wonder about its other meaning... :? )

Oh, and censored face is censored.

I know this is quite old challenge, but today I finally had (after some very busy weeks) some time to spend with my kimono collection. I ended up going thru oldest part of it and when I had gone thru certain amount of items, I just came to thought why not to try put something together as well just for fun. Quite soon after it I noticed that, so far I can say, somehow ALL of my first four kimonos seem to have mums.

Since even my “far too good to hide somewhere when needed”- camera too decided to be co-operative enough today to appearing on seen, I took few pictures. Daylight decided to be against me so they ended up little dim but at least colors stayed very close originals. Here are three of those four:

ImageImage
Sorry for kind of wrinkly looking hempart. This kimono turned out to be notable too small to my padded mannequin.
ImageImage
Far too long ohashori :ohno: Also not sure about accessories. Just wanted to try something else than red with this.
ImageImage
I call this one as my "giant" since this kimono is actually far too big to me. In order to wear this, I had to tie koshihimo pratically my armpits. And though that help what comes to lenght, then there is all that fabric on the sides to hide... :smil3:

You have some really pretty pieces in your collection. I love the blue obi and the obi with birds :lovelove ! And the blue obi matches so nicely the cream(?) kimono.

muhvi: Thank you very much. Yes, second kimono is cream (clearly “yellowish” and warm shaded) one. Because main part of my collection is very “cold colored” (in general they suit me better, many warm colors make me easily look either withering or otherwise weird), I have always lots of troubles with accessories what comes to that kimono. The obi in the picture is one of those few ones which I own that matches with it even somehow.
