I have a link to a site with three diaries of court ladies. I might have some others that might help I'll see if I can find them.Including Murasaki Shikibu and Izumi Shikibu.
http://digital.library.upenn.edu/women/omori/court/court.html
I hope it helps.  :)

Here's the Tale of Genji online. The first one has images and the pages are kinda short,so it might get annoying. http://webworld.unesco.org/genji/en/index.shtml
This ones a little better. http://www.globusz.com/ebooks/Genji/00000010.htm Also if you look on youtube.com they have the animated Tale of Genji from the 80s.This is really all I could find but I'll keep my eye out.

Even though Liza Dalby's book Murasaki is fiction, I believe she did a lot of research on it. You may enjoy the read as well. Lots of description of kosode matching and writing poetry.

I stumbled onto this original post very late, but may I recommend:

Ivan Morris' The World of the Shining Prince which describes court life based on the literature of the Heian period. It's a scholarly work which you may or may not find a bit dry, but I have found it extremely useful.

Please also see the "literature" thread which mentions a number of nikki (diaries) by court ladies of the Heian and Kamakura periods.

What does it say about me that I knew where that link goes without clicking on it?  ;)

The Kyoto Costume Museum website is a marvelous resource.

OMG! I bought the spanish edition of this book just yesterday! I'ts just published. You're very lucky of having it online.

At the end of the book, the spanish translator pays homage toAmy Lowell, the poet who wrote the original edition's prolog, because he says miss Lowell's prolog "is a model of clarity, rigour and entertainment".

I just found 11 episodes of something called Genji Monogatari Sennenki on animecrazy.net ( a free site when you sign up for it). It looks incredibly pretty and if I understand the info it came out last year, but since I haven't read Genji yet, this may be horribly inaccurate. Can someone who is better informed watch it and give a better review then me? Well, good or bad, I like pretty things so I'm off to check it out.

Genji Monogatari Sennenki, well the clothing looks fairly good. It follows the plot of the book, but the colors of people's eyes and hairstyles are more modern. I'm really hoping they do a second season, so we can continue on with the Suma chapter!
