Hello again, everyone! I have a fun topic to post. (Although, I might have posted it in the wrong area?) 8-O

My friend is in Japan and I saw her post a photo of herself with what seems to be a maiko. She said she was in Arashiyama and that this lady was just standing there for a while. So I became super sceptical, explained why she might be fake, even though she looks adorable, and asked her if I couldn't post her photo to a forum for some quick hack and slash/let's down to business analyzation stuff. :smil3:

Here is a photo:

I'm leaning towards fake because her hairline makes me think she may be wearing a wig and her make up went all the way up to her hair. Also, her makeup may not match her kanzashi (a kind that I've never seen before). What's fun is that I also found this similar photo online from 2009:

So. What are your thoughts? :creepo:

Have fun everyone! :lovelove

Faiko, definatly.. Look at the wings of the wig. they're really uneven and the front bang is way too wide compared to the Maiko ones

I thought she looked a bit old to be a new maiko, myself (though I know it's really hard to tell ages of Asians, and in white-face).

The bag, too, they're empty. I never really got why they have them carry around those kinchaku if they're empty... you'd at least think they'd have SOMETHING in there...

I have heard that some hensin studios do put something in it to make it look like they carry around quite a lot but actually there is nothing in it

Definitely just women dressed up as Maiko. There are no maiko in Arashiyama (unless hired for some purpose - in which case they wouldn't be just sitting around), there are no districts in Arashiyama.
