The Immortal Geisha Forum was originally launched in 2002 and quickly became an active, global community of people with like-minded interest in various aspects of traditional Japanese arts and culture.
In addition to the wonderful disposition of our members, a part of the success for the smooth running of the forums have been the rules and guidelines we've developed over the years.
With the re-launch of the forums in 2017 after a two year forum hiatus, we have revisited and revised the rules. In some cases we have removed older rules that were either obsolete or no longer a concern on a technical front, and in other cases, we have had to add in some new rules due to various situations that that arose over the past few years. Additionally, because of the Immortal Geisha Facebook Group - we have re-worked the rules and guidelines to be inclusive to both the Facebook Group and the forums.
We have also gone through and made an effort to not only explain the reasoning for each rule, but we have also taken steps to explain how we proceed with moderating the forums and when/how action is taken to ensure a level of transparency and understanding.
RULES of the Immortal Geisha Forum and Facebook Group
In order to make linking to individual rules and guidelines easier for the moderators, we have separated the rules and guidelines into their own individual topics and created this main, master FAQ thread to link to each.
All members, old and new alike: While we understand it appears that this is lengthy, please take a moment to read through it all and do not hesitate to contact the moderating team if you have any questions or need clarification.
The Moderating Team
Please visit thread for detailed information: viewtopic.php?f=65&t=599
We have increased the number of moderators on the Forums and Facebook, not because we feel we need to have heavier moderation, but to ensure that there will always be a moderator available should an issue arise (due to timezone differences, etc) and also that if any member/s of the moderating team need to take a hiatus for any reason, we still have other moderators on board to ensure any issues are taken care of in a timely manner.
Below is a list of moderators for both the Forums and Facebook

The Warning System
Please visit thread for detailed information: viewtopic.php?f=65&t=600
We work on a "three strikes, you're out" philosophy. This is a total of three official warnings per individual, regardless of whether the infraction took place on the forums or in the Facebook group.
In addition, there are certain behaviours that will result in an instant temporary ban or outright permanent ban. No warning will be issued for these infractions.
The moderating team prefers not to have to issue official warnings for unintended or accidental minor infractions and will carefully review any reports and may choose to issue an unofficial warning or “heads-up” with regard to the situation rather than an official warning. The moderating team, does, however, retain the right to upgrade the unofficial warning to an official warning if follow-up behaviour deems it necessary.
How to Submit a Report of Inappropriate or Concerning Activity
Please visit thread for detailed information: viewtopic.php?f=65&t=606
Before submitting a report about a member’s tone or choice of words, please take a moment to review and consider whether it could be an issue of language barriers or a cultural misunderstanding. Both the forums and Facebook group has diverse membership and misunderstandings are going to happen.
The method for reporting is different between the Forums and Facebook. Please ensure you read through the above linked thread for detailed information on how to proceed.
How Does The Moderating Process Work?
Please visit thread for detailed information: viewtopic.php?f=65&t=601
The moderating team as a whole, rather than any one individual moderator, work together to resolve any issues and decide on an appropriate course of action.
All the moderators tend to have very slightly different views about issues, which means the course of action selected in the end has been very thoroughly reviewed and agreed upon by all moderators. Our aim is not to play favourites, but to be fair to all and keep the atmosphere of the forum intact.
As the moderating team resides in different time zones, with varying levels of availability, it can take a few days for the review process to be completed.
Please ensure you read through the above-linked thread to understand the steps taken, along with how the appeals process works.
