Re: Which men's hakama is the most formal or both the same level ?

For so far I have been able to find out :wink_samurai: is that both Hakama can be indeed worn on formal occasions but the hakama with the thin stripes is the traditional Hakama, the one with the thick stripes is a more modern design Hakama. I suppose that is the difference (for now :cheeky_samurai: )

Which men's hakama is the most formal or both the same level ?

Good day all, Another question entered my head, if I learned correctly the most formal hakama is made from striped sendaihira cloth (千代平) . But i am noticing 2 kinds of hakama, one with thin stripes and one with thick stripes. Is there a difference between formality or occasion or are they the same,...

Re: Hanging kimono in your closet (short-medium term storage)

Long storage I use also the tatoushi paper. Because of the folding, wrapping and finding an empty spot in the drawers I don't do this when there is a good chance I will be wearing it again the coming week. :wink_samurai: short term I have hanged them near the wall on a kimono hanger (emonkake) or fo...

Re: carrying the wagasa/umbrella in kimono

Thank you for the reply, as suspected a bit overthinking on my part. That's probably why I couldn't find (yet) any information about this in the kimono study books and magazines. (or it should be kyuu 1-2 stuff, which I doubt) Let's see... what was that other thing that bugged me lately :cheeky_samu...

carrying the wagasa/umbrella in kimono

So, confused moment when I got out in the rain a few days ago. Do you carry the wagasa/umbrella in your left hand or right hand, or is it just what you prefer ? :surprise_samurai: Does this hand position change if it stops raining when you carry the umbrella closed ? Looking at the images on the net...

Re: Is it weird to wear a tonbi-coat ?

Glad to hear you enjoy wearing the tonbi :smile_samurai: When I get home and finish my meal for the day I usually change back into the kimono (like Namihei Isono in Sazae-san) so I will probably wear it more often when the dog wants to enjoy the outdoor scenery :wink_samurai: The one that will be ad...

Is it weird to wear a tonbi-coat ?

Good morning all, When I showed my wife a picture of a tonbi coat (鳶) her first reaction was "waaahh.. old .. long time ago" so I started to wonder if wearing a coat popular in the meiji-period would be indeed a bit strange/weird to wear in the current times as an "everyday" rain coat. So, would wea...

Thanks for the reply, for a (sha/ro) summer kimono, after some thought, I personally could indeed find a shorter sleeve acceptable... Now only if the prices of those kimono's weren't so high :dead_samurai: (writing this I r...

Width of the sleeve and family crests

A few more questions that are bugging me :cheeky_samurai: Is it weird to wear a kimono where the yuki (裄 - distance from the seam in the back of a kimono to the end of the sleeve) is kinda short ? Normally I need 78-82 cm, but seeing so many interesting kimono's with a sleeve width of around 70-73.....

Color han-eri for men and fabric formality

Good day all, Something is nagging in the back of my head. I remember vaguely that I've read somewhere that there are some rules for the men's han-eri. For example, regarding the color of the han-eri, are there any rules for men like: white only for formal (礼装) and mofuku (喪服) or when wearing a summ...
