Yoshiwara - The Nightless City
by JE De Becker
Charles E. Tuttle Co., Inc
ISBN: 0804808775

This book is an absolute classic when it comes to some of the first written works in English about the floating world. It is definately one of the fore runners in non-fiction writings about geisha and courtesans and judging by the foward, caused quite a stir back in the Victorian era with it's release.

De Becker has gone to great pains and researching to provide an invaluable amount of information about the day to day runnings of the pleasure quarters along with the day to day life of both courtesans and geisha alike. Most modern works on geisha and the floating world tend to always refer back to this wonderful classic.
