Geisha and Maiko Book Reviews

Japanese Culture & Art Book Reviews...

Geisha
by Liza Crihfield Dalby
University of California Press
ISBN: 0520204956

Liza Dalby is the only non-Japanese lady to have had the utmost honor of being a geisha. Her chance at being a geisha came about when she was staying in Japan studying the geisha culture.

This book serves two purposes. To write about her studies of the geisha culture and traditions and to write about her experience and life as a geisha. Whilst it can be quite a long read, no serious geisha research would overlook this book. It really is a must have and it has been an invaluable source of information and inspiration for me.
