Geisha and Maiko Book Reviews

Japanese Culture & Art Book Reviews...

The Flower and Willow World
by A.C. Scott
Windmill Press Ltd
ISBN: B0006AWH1O

An absolute delightful and surprisingly unbiased read about geisha and maiko. A.C. Scott has a nice and smooth writing style that lures you into the book, transporting you to a different world.

What I really enjoyed about this book initially was how Scott delves even further away from the initial Japanese culture back to the roots in Chinese culture to the origins of the "sing-song" girls. It was really quite fascinating to read about this, and opened my eyes even further to other various inspirations and sources that geisha and their predecessors may have derived from. If you can get your hands on this book, you certainly wont regret it.
